Take Me Home Tonight
Since I have two days off work for Thanksgiving, I’m taking full advantage of staying up late. Tonight, I decided to watch Take Me Home Tonight.
This movie slipped completely under the radar for me. I had never heard of it before going to Netflix tonight and seeing it had been recently added. I saw that it had Topher Grace and Dan Fogler in it and figured it might be a nice, semi-funny movie that I could fall asleep to. Well, it’s 4 a.m. now, and I have to say I was more pleasantly surprised. A wild, party comedy set in the 80’s geared towards people who just graduated college and don’t know what they want to do with their life. Does that sound entertaining? Because it was. While it was by no stretch a great movie, it was really fun. The cast was full of people that I enjoy watching, that I don’t get to see a lot, and the situations the characters found themselves in were entertaining.
While extremely predictable and formulaic, it a good lighthearted comedy that showed a different view of a very real problem for people who have just graduated college. I would definitely recommend this movie if you were sitting around bored one night.
Deadpool: A Typical Tuesday (Indie Film)
A talented guy I knew in college is creating a Deadpool fan film! The video explains the feel they’re going for in the film and what to expect. So far, it sounds very cool. Definitely a film for fans, buy fans. It’ll be short, around 10-15 minutes long and should be a great production, knowing Keith. If you have any interest in helping indie movie producers, here’s the link to the Ifundie page. If you could donate a bit (anything from $1 to $1500 - everything helps), I know he would appreciate it.
X-men: First Class
I must admit that I don’t know too much about X-men canon. I’ve read a few Wolverine comics and miniseries, read a few wikipedia articles, but that’s about it. So I don’t know if this movie kept along the path of “correct” Marvel canon, but I liked what it was.
The characters stood out the most in XMFC. Each character was very well developed and I feel I’m actually going to miss them. Though some had limited screen time, each mutant had a distinct personality that the script did a great job of showing. I enjoyed the other X-Men movies, the first being my previous favorite, but I felt this film did a much better job of exploring characters.
I don’t really have any complaints. Really, really well done movie. I’m kind of ashamed that I brushed this movie off after I saw the trailers. But hey, X-Men Origins: Wolverine. That’s all.
Micro Movie Review for Thor
Thor was a pretty movie with cool scenery, fun fight scenes, and a love story that rivaled the Star Wars prequels.
A serious movie that goes in a humorous direction is called a black comedy. A humorous movie that goes in a serious direction is called crap.
Repo! The Genetic Opera
Tonight I watched Repo! The Genetic Opera. I had never heard of it before last night, when I saw an interesting gif image of it on Tumblr, so thanks Khera, for introducing me to it.
This movie was made so right! I’m a fan of rock operas, so this movie got points right off the bat for that. Each character has a certain style of singing in order to converse, which I really liked. Graverobber’s rhythm and Shilo’s (mostly) shy, innocent responses to the other characters were fun to watch.
The movie had a very Alice in Wonderland feel to it. A girl, who has been stuck in her room for 17 years, is thrust into this crazy new world (much like the viewer) and meets all these interesting characters. Very entertaining. It’s on Netflix Instant for anyone who wants to check it out.
